SHEFFIELD UNITED RELEGATED AFTER NEWCASTLE ROUT, CRYSTAL PALACE DRAW AT FULHAM, WOLVES BEAT LUTON

Apr 27, 2024

Newcastle United defeated Sheffield United 5-1 on Saturday afternoon to confirm the Yorkshire side’s relegation from the Premier League. Elsewhere, Wolverhampton Wanderers defeated another struggling side, Luton, 2-1, and Crystal Palace equalised late against Fulham at Craven Cottage, while Burnley grabbed a dramatic point at Manchester United as Erik ten Hag’s men failed to hold onto a lead. Sheffield United were relegated after they were crushed 5-1 by Newcastle, Wolves beat Luton, and Crystal Palace drew at Fulham on Saturday afternoon.
Sheffield United were facing the possibility of relegation after their 4-2 midweek defeat to Manchester United in midweek, but went ahead through Anel Ahmedhodzic after just five minutes.
Newcastle’s in-form striker Alexander Isak put the home side level as he ran onto a through ball on 26 minutes to slide a finish home. Isak converted a penalty on 61 minutes, shortly before a Ben Osborn own goal, and the floodgates were wide open by the time Callum Wilson made it five on 71 minutes.
Less than 10 minutes after the restart, Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes put Eddie Howe’s side ahead,
Fulham met Crystal Palace in a London derby at Craven Cottage, and it took 52 minutes before Rodrigo Muniz nodded the home side in front, but Jeffrey Schlupp equalised in the last few minutes of the game.

Wolves went ahead on 39 minutes when forward Hwange Hee-chan when his shot from a tight angle on the left took a deflection to sneak into the far corner.
Toti Gomes made it two for Gary O’Neil’s side on 50 minutes as Luton’s attempt at survival took a potentially fatal blow.
Carlton Morris pulled one back with 10 minutes of normal time remaining but Rob Edwards saw his team slump to another defeat as they searched in vain for an equaliser.
Manchester United conceded late once more as they drew 1-1 at home to Burnley. Antony scored with a composed finish from under-fire winger Antony on 80 minutes, but Zeki Amdouni scored from the spot seven minutes later, putting the pressure further on United manager Erik ten Hag.
Earlier in the day, Liverpool drew 2-2 at West Ham as they looked to have lost any chance of winning the league this season, with Arsenal and Manchester City yet to play.
