Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a deal to sign Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah this summer. Meanwhile, Arsenal appear to have won the battle to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, and Liverpool are facing a battle to keep Luis Diaz and Joe Gomes at Anfield with both players attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League this summer.
CHALOBAH ON MAN UTD’S SHORTLIST
Manchester United are weighing up a move for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah this summer.
Erik ten Hag has struggled to name a consistent defence this season due to injuries, and with Raphael Varane leaving the club, United are eager to bolster their backline.
Chelsea’s 24-year-old defender is thought to be available for £25 million and is said to be on their shortlist.
“Manchester United are considering a move for Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah as they assess centre-half options for next season,” writes The Independent.
“Chelsea are willing to do business on at least one of Chalobah or Connor Gallagher, in order to meet profit and sustainability rules by 30 June. They would want a transfer fee of around £25m.
“United are weighing up a bid, although any move would come amid a planned overhaul of the entire recruitment approach in the summer. The new Ineos-run football leadership believe player trading is one of the most obvious areas that needs to be drastically improved at Old Trafford, after a series of poor decisions have created a bloated squad on high wages.
“United now want to follow the approach of high-performing clubs and mostly sign players who are under the age of 25, due to the potential for growth, while also fitting into modern pressing demands. Chalobah would fit that mould, although he turns 25 in July.”
SESKO PREFERS ARSENAL MOVE
Arsenal appear to have won the battle to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko this summer.
The Mirror claims Sesko prefers a move to The Gunners over Chelsea and Manchester United.
The 20-year-old, a Slovenia international, scored 14 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances last season.
“Benjamin Sesko favours a move to Arsenal this summer,” writes the outlet.
”RB Leipzig striker Sesko is being courted by a host of clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United while there is strong interest from Italy.
“But Arsenal now appear to be in pole position for the £45m-rated forward as the Slovenia international prefers moving to the Emirates after finding himself at the centre of a transfer battle.
”That is a huge boost for the Gunners with Mikel Arteta eyeing a young striker who can develop and work in tandem with Kai Havertz who was a revelation for Arsenal last season. His agent Elvis Basanovic has been to Arsenal matches this season and Sesko – who turns 21 on Friday – would fit the bill.
“RB Leipzig are prepared to sell this summer if they can broker the right deal even though he has only been with them for the past year but has been within the same “family” of clubs, having joined Red Bull Salzburg in 2019.”
DIAZ AND GOMEZ ATTRACTING INTEREST FROM SAUDI
Saudi Pro League clubs are interested in Liverpool duo Luis Diaz and Joe Gomez, according to a report in the Mail.
The Reds are transitioning between bosses with Arne Slot replacing Jurgen Klopp in the hotseat and the outlet believes clubs in Saudi Arabia feel there is an “opportunity to test their resolve over the coming weeks”.
“Liverpool’s Luis Diaz and Joe Gomez have emerged as targets for the Saudi Arabian Pro League as they look to attract younger players this summer,” the article reads.
“There is a belief that both could be open to a move this summer following Jurgen Klopp’s departure and the arrival of Arne Slot from Feyenoord.
“The Saudi Pro League’s chief executive and former Chelsea director of football Michael Emenalo has spoken openly about their quest to sign ‘exceptional’ players in their prime for this summer.”
