Phil Foden has been recognised for a stellar campaign with Manchester City after winning the Premier League Player of the Season award. The 23-year-old was also named the men’s FWA Footballer of the Year earlier this month, and will hope to win a sixth Premier League winners’ medal on Sunday. This is the fifth season in a row that a Man City player has won the award.
Phil Foden has been rewarded for a stellar season at Manchester City after being named as the Premier League Player of the Season.
Foden has played an integral part in City’s bid to win an unprecedented fourth English top-flight title in a row, a feat they will achieve with victory over West Ham United on Sunday.
The midfielder fought off competition from City team-mate Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak (Newcastle United), Martin Odegaard (Arsenal), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) and Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) to win the award.
It completes a prestigious awards double for Foden, after winning the 2024 Football Writers’ Association men’s Footballer of the Year award on May 3.
“To win this award is an achievement that I am extremely proud of,” Foden told the Manchester City website.
“The Premier League is acknowledged as the greatest league in the world, and it is a pleasure to have been nominated with so many other great players who have all enjoyed special seasons for their clubs.
“Overall, I’ve been very happy with the way I have played this season and really pleased that I have been able to contribute with the goals and assists throughout the season.
“I’d like to thank all of the City staff, coaches and especially my team-mates because without them this wouldn’t be possible. And I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me as the award means a lot.” The 23-year-old has scored 17 goals and claimed eight assists in the top flight this season, and could become the youngest player to win six Premier League titles if Pep Guardiola’s side get the job done against The Hammers.
During a trophy-laden career, Foden has an extensive honours list which includes the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, four League Cups and two FA Cups.
