It’s been close to ten months since the reigning Ballon d’Or holder made the blockbuster move from PSG to Inter Miami, with MLS and soccer in America as a whole undergoing a radical change for the better in the process.

A new season has brought fresh hope for Inter Miami that they can challenge for MLS Cup, with Tata Martino overseeing quite the project with Messi at the helm having now added the likes of Luis Suarez to the squad.

Yet for former defender Gibbs, one youngster is now clicking with Messi on the pitch.

Speaking on the Inter Miami CF Weekly Show, the former Arsenal defender lauded how Diego Gomez is now playing on the same wavelength as Messi, with the midfielder latching onto the Argentine’s sensational pass on Saturday.

Given that all of Inter Miami’s best moves all flow through Messi, the more players who can connect with the 36-year-old the better the entire team will become, with Gomez already forming quite the partnership with the attacker.

Gibbs said when talking about Messi’s assist to Gomez: “This is where Messi is at his most dangerous, and as soon as he takes that touch, what I love is that Gomez makes his run almost immediately. “If you watch him, as he takes his first touch, he’s gone, and it’s really hard to stop as a defender, and he times his run perfectly followed by a great finish.”

Messi’s arrival has already seen a number of Inter Miami players take their games to new levels, with Robert Taylor the obvious candidate from last year as Gomez has taken the title this season.

Yet if Inter Miami are to make real progress this year with Messi on their books, more players will need to build these connections with the attacker in the coming weeks, with MLS Cup now the ultimate end goal. Indeed, time is thankfully on Inter Miami’s hands, with Messi’s fitness also starting to look up after a shaky start to the year, and Martino will be hoping that players can hit the right chemistry with the club captain in the upcoming games.
