Ukraine held Germany to a goalless draw in a Euro 2024 warm-up game. The spoils were shared in Nuremberg, with neither side able to find a breakthrough at the Max Morlock Stadium. Germany squandered the best chance of the first half in the 15th minute when Pascal Gross’ deep cross found an unmarked Ilkay Gundogan in the penalty area, but the captain failed to make the decisive connection. Maximilian Beyer was introduced for his senior international debut just before the hour mark. The Hoffenheim striker almost got off to a dream start, rattling the woodwork with his second touch and drawing a smart save from Anatoly Trubin soon after. Trubin came to Ukraine’s aid again in the 78th minute with excellent reflexes to deny Chris Fuhrich’s shot, but opposite number Manuel Neuer almost gave the visitors victory two minutes from time. Running wide to collect a long ball, the keeper’s loose pass was intercepted and substitute Artem Dovbyk headed in, only for the Girona striker to be rightly ruled offside. Deniz Undav was thwarted by Trubin with the last chance of the game in stoppage time as the spoils were shared in Nürnberg’s first international match in seven years.
