EURO 2024 REFEREE AND VAR GUIDELINES

UEFA has made a number of changes to referee guidelines for Euro 2024. Among them, referees will crack down on dissent by cautioning players who show any kind of disrespect to officials, while VAR decisions will be broadcast live in stadiums. In addition, there will be a zero tolerance policy for fouls and extra time will be limited, when possible, to a maximum of 10 minutes per game.

So what’s new?

The captain will be the only player allowed to approach the referees and in turn the referees will try to give the captains more detailed explanations regarding the decisions.

VAR has caused controversy since its introduction, but it is hoped that the fan experience will be improved with decisions explained in real time on big screens in stadiums.
