Wembley Stadium plays host to the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday, with Real Madrid hot favourites to beat Borussia Dortmund – live on TNT Sports and discovery+. Dortmund boss Edin Terzic is aware of the huge task facing his side, but he says they will not shy away from the challenge and has urged his players to be hungry and fight as a unit.
Edin Terzic has said his Borussia Dortmund side need to show hunger and cohesion if they are to stand a chance of toppling the “final boss” Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final.
Real have a storied history in the competition, and victory at Wembley on Saturday in front of the TNT Sports and discovery+ cameras would be their 15th European Cup triumph.
Carlo Ancelotti’s Real are hot favourites to win, but Terzic is unfazed by going into the match as the underdogs.
“If you want to win the Champions League, you have to beat the champions and we are playing against the final boss in this competition,” Terzic told TNT Sports. “They have won it so many times, the most successful team in the history of this competition.”
Terzic is unfazed by facing the might of Madrid, and feels destiny is in their own hands.
“It is up to us how big the chances are that they win and how big our own chances are,” Terzic said. “It is about playing the game and not the occasion.”
Dortmund have had money troubles in the relatively recent past, and now operate a policy of nurturing talent and selling on for vast profit.
Terzic is aware of BVB’s role, and their underdog status, but feels it does not impact on their chances in a one-off match.
“We are not the project,” Terzic said. “We are a team and a club that are losing players and selling players and not spending big money to get this kind of success straight away, so we need to work hard to get into this position and onto this stage.
“We have not been the favourite against Atletico [Madrid, in the quarter-finals], we have not been the favourite against PSG [Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals].
“I don’t mind who is the favourite tomorrow. We are going to be playing against a very experienced team.
“If they are more experienced, we have to be more hungry. And if we are more hungry and if we work as a team, as a unit, then everything is possible.
“If you break it down to one game, this is what we managed, then let’s get it on.”
