Anthony Gordon only left Everton in 2023 but the Newcastle winger is already being linked back with a move to Merseyside, with Liverpool said to be interested. Elsewhere in Monday’s Paper Round, Bayern Munich are planning a raid on the Premier League, with Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Everton’s Amadou Onana on their wishlist, and Real Madrid are working on a “massive deal” for Florian Wirtz.
LIVERPOOL TARGETING GORDON
Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon is on Liverpool’s wishlist, claims a report in the Daily Star.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a stellar season in the north east, scoring 11 goals and registering 11 assists, and earning an international debut with England. According to the Star, The Reds are interested in luring Gordon back to Merseyside just a year after he left for Tyneside.
The outlet claims Gordon has “caught the attention of Liverpool’s scouting unit as they draw up a list of potential targets for the post-Jurgen Klopp era”.
“Gordon is near the top of it but the Geordies, of course, will be in no mood to sell their star performer, who only joined them last August in a £45 million switch from Everton,” states the article.
“Swedish hitman Alexander Isak has been heavily linked with a big-money move to Arsenal as has Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. However, Gordon being tracked by Liverpool is a new development – and will be an unwelcome one as far as Newcastle boss Howe is concerned.”
BAYERN ‘READY TO MOVE’ FOR WHARTON
Bayern Munich already have two Englishmen in their team and they’re trying to add a third, according to The Sun.
Having been reportedly rebuffed by Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, the Bavarians are now said to be “ready to move” for midfielder Adam Wharton.
And Bayern are also believed to be interested in Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.
“The German giants are desperate for the midfield maestro [Wharton], 20, after missing out when the Eagles swooped on Blackburn for him in January,” states the outlet.
“Harry Kane’s Bayern worked on a deal to sign Wharton and take 18 months to develop him but Palace saw them off – and Chelsea, who also had a similar plan.
“Wharton cost Palace £18 million but it would now take £60m to get him — an expensive mistake for Bayern.
“Experts think he will play in the Champions League sooner rather than later and Palace could come under pressure to keep him.
“But boyhood Blackburn fan Wharton may attract a bid quicker – helped by a brilliant display in last Monday’s 4-0 thumping of Manchester United and an assist in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Wolves.
“Palace are under siege off the field too, with director of football Dougie Freedman wanted by Newcastle.
“He masterminded deals for all of the Palace captures and is happy at the club.
“However, if they sell too many in the next window, it could lead to a change of heart.
“Meanwhile Bayern are also looking at Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, 22, but would have to find £50m to land him.”
REAL WORKING ON ‘MASSIVE’ WIRTZ DEAL
Real Madrid are working on a “massive deal” to sign Bayern Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, according to The Sun.
Wirtz has been one of many standout players for Xabi Alonso’s side this season as they aim for a remarkable unbeaten treble.
But the outlet adds: “Real aren’t planning to sign Wirtz, 21, before the summer of 2025 and have thus given the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool a year’s head start”.
“Real are already preparing the ground for their next Galactico signing with Wirtz posing as their favourite marquee signing for the 2025-26 season.
“According to Marca, the Spanish champions have begun work on acquiring the playmaker at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
“That means United, City, Chelsea and Liverpool, who see him as Mohamed Salah’s replacement, will have to work fast this summer or next January.
“This promises to be quite an intense bidding war with Bayern Munich also interested.”
