Nuri Sahin will succeed Edin Terzic as the new coach of Borussia Dortmund, the club announced. Terzic stepped down from his role on Thursday, a move that followed Dortmund’s 2-0 defeat by Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final at Wembley. Sahin made 274 appearances as a player for Dortmund and worked at the club as an assistant coach before his appointment. Borussia Dortmund appointed Nuri Sahin as the new coach after the departure of Edin Terzic.
Terzic and Dortmund parted ways on Thursday, less than two weeks after the German club lost 2-0 to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final.
Sahin, 35, is a former Dortmund midfielder and was assistant coach to Terzic before inheriting the top job after talks with the club.
“It is a great honor for me to be the coach of Borussia Dortmund,” Sahin said. “I would like to thank everyone at the club for the trust they have placed in me.” I am really looking forward to my job at BVB.
“From the first day, we will do everything we can with a lot of energy and great passion to achieve the greatest possible success.”
Sahin began his playing career with Dortmund’s reserves before making his Bundesliga debut in 2005 at the age of 16.

The midfielder made 274 appearances across several appearances for Dortmund, scoring 26 goals and winning the Bundesliga during that time.
He also enjoyed spells with Real Madrid and Liverpool before stepping down while at Turkish club Antalyaspor to become head coach in 2021.
He left Antalyaspor at the end of 2023 and was appointed assistant coach by Dortmund just days later.
General manager Lars Rieken added: “We are delighted to be able to hand over the responsibility as head coach to Nuri Sahin, a representative of the younger generation. He has worked hard over the last few years to prepare for a coaching career, and will take on his new role with great commitment and continue to develop our team.
“As former teammates, we will work together with trust and ambition.” Nuri knows the club, its employees and the BVB DNA both as a player and as an assistant coach. We are convinced that Nuri is the right coach for us.
