JOSHUA ZIRKZEE: DUTCHMAN ‘EXCITED’ TO JOIN ‘BEST CLUB IN THE WORLD’ MANCHESTER UNITED

Jul 18, 2024

Joshua Zirkzy is Manchester United’s first signing of the summer following his move from Bologna. Erik ten Haag is looking to freshen up his team after a frustrating season last time out, which saw them slump to their worst finish in the Premier League. Zirkzee – who represented the Netherlands at Euro 2024 – says he is confident United’s plans for future success will be realised.

Joshua Zirkzy says he believes in Manchester United’s plans for the future after moving to Old Trafford on a five-year deal.
The Dutch striker has joined Italian club Bologna in a deal worth around £36.5m.
Zirkzy made two appearances at Euro 2024 for the Netherlands, including a late cameo against England in the semi-final, when Ollie Watkins’ stunning winner sent them through.

Having been in Germany for the tournament, Zirkzee admitted it had been a “rollercoaster” few weeks – with the deal to take him to United taking place in the background during his time on international duty.
He arrives in Manchester as Erik ten Haag looks to freshen things up after their worst finish in the Premier League last term.
That disappointment was eased by their FA Cup triumph at Wembley, but fans and management are still demanding that Ten Haag produce better results after his contract extension.

Speaking to the club’s media team, Zirkzy said: “I have a lot of confidence and a good feeling about this step.
“It was not a difficult decision. I mean, I love Bologna a lot, but Manchester United gave me a very, very good feeling.
“I am convinced that what is planned will happen.”
“It’s been a huge success over the last few weeks.” There are very good experiences and I am very happy to be here. Obviously, the transfer to Manchester United is something very positive.
“I can’t wait to get started and continue what I basically did last season. I just hope to improve every day and do the best I can.”
Ten Hag will also be hoping Zirkzy can continue his form from last season, which saw his stock continue to rise. behind Rasmus Hoylund and Bruno Fernandes.
“I’m very happy to be here. I mean, it’s probably the biggest club in the world, so I can’t wait to get started and meet everyone and start this journey. I’m very, very excited,” he said.
United will play in the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 10, before their first Premier League game of the season when they host Fulham at Old Trafford six days later.

Reflecting on the challenge ahead, Zirkzy said, “I’m going on a short break. Try to relax a bit and then go back to Manchester and start.
“Obviously [Old Trafford] is a crazy stadium. I can’t wait to play in the stadium. Just very, very excited, very motivated.”
Zirkzee is the first signing of the summer and Leni Ioro is expected to be next.
