Lamine Jamal became the youngest ever European Championship player as Spain got off to a flying start to European Championship 2024 with a 3-0 win over Croatia at the Olimpijastadion. Jamal, 16, assisted Dani Carvajal’s strike a day after Luis de la Fuente said the winger had been “touched by a magic wand”. De la Fuente also had a special word of praise for man of the match and goalscorer Fabian Ruiz.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente is confident Lamine Jamal will become “one of the best” after the 16-year-old became the youngest player to feature at the European Championships. The teenager assisted Dani Carvajal for his side’s third goal just before half-time as Spain beat Croatia 3-0 at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.
Alvaro Morata and man of the match Fabian Ruiz were also on the scoresheet in what proved to be a very comfortable win for the four-time winners to kick-start their Euro 2024 campaign. Asked about the youngster’s record-breaking form, De la Fuente was confident Jamal can go straight to the top.
He said: “Lamine Yamal becomes the youngest player to play at the Euros? He just keeps breaking records. He has to keep growing and I’m sure he’ll be one of the best one day.”
