Legendary manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Real Madrid will be the last club he manages in his 30-year career. The five-time Champions League winner extended his contract in December to remain Los Blancos coach until the end of the 2025/26 season. The Italian thinks that his current role will be his last in club football.
Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Real Madrid will probably be the last club he manages in his career. The Italian helped Real complete a league and European double last season, guiding his side to another La Liga title before beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the Champions League final at Wembley. Ancelotti returned for a second spell as Real Madrid coach in 2021, having previously managed the club between 2013 and 2015.
After spells at Bayern Munich, Napoli and Everton, the 65-year-old returned to the Spanish capital and won two league titles in three years. During that time, Real Madrid won two Champions League trophies and the Copa del Rey. Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, to his former Chelsea man John Obi Mikel, Ancelotti admitted “this will be my last club”. “Whether there is an opportunity for the national team, I don’t know,” he said. “I’m not that excited to be the coach of the national team because I would lose what I like the most, every day.” I really enjoy what I do.
“This is my 29th season as a coach. It’s true that I’ve won a lot, but imagine the number of titles I’ve lost.” Ancelotti will probably go down as one of the greatest managers of his generation, winning five Champions League titles. The veteran coach signed a contract extension in December to stay at the Bernabeu until the end of the 2025/26 season. One of the key figures in his current squad, Brazilian winger Vinicius Junior, is worthy of the Ballon d’Or, according to his coach.
“I think Vinicius will win [the Ballon d’Or] because he is a talented player and he did very well last season,” Ancelotti said. “It is true that Dani Carvajal also did very well. Carvajal won the league, the Champions League, scored in the final and won the European Championship. “But Vinicius is young, talented, has a good image. He won the league and won the Champions League, scoring two goals in the semi-final and the final. “Jude Bellingham also had a fantastic season. He was a big surprise. The best player in the league.” Ancelotti will have even more firepower at Real Madrid this season, with French superstar Kylian Mbappe set to join the club this summer. His coach expects a quick adaptation of the captain of the French national team to life in Spain. “I don’t think it will be a problem,” added Ancelotti. “The key thing is that every player has to put his talent at the service of the team and his teammates. It will be exactly the same for Mbappe.”
