Aston Villa have completed the transfer of Amadou Onana from Everton, who has signed a five-year contract for a reported fee of £50m. The Belgium international becomes the seventh player to arrive at Villa Park in the summer transfer window as Unai Emery’s side prepare for a return to UEFA Champions League football after a stunning fourth-placed finish in the Premier League last term.
Aston Villa have confirmed the permanent signing of midfielder Amadou Onan from Everton for a fee of £50m, as reported by the BBC.
The 22-year-old has joined Unai Emery’s side, ending his two-year stay at Goodison Park.
Onana is the seventh player to join the club this summer, following Ross Barkley, Ian Matsen, Samuel Ealing-Junior and Enzo Barenece through the gates at Villa Park.
Cameron Archer, like Barkley, has also rejoined the club under the terms of his unique deal with Sheffield United, which saw him return to Villa following the Blades’ relegation last season.
Onana is the second player to join Villans from Everton in the current transfer window after striker Lewis Dobbin signed for the West Midlands club in June for an undisclosed fee.
Onana is expected to be a replacement for Douglas Luiz, who left the club earlier this summer to join Italian giants Juventus.
As part of the deal for the Brazilian, the 20-year-old Ealing-Junior went in the opposite direction and left the Serie A side for Villa.
Onana represents Belgium at international level and played 17 times for the Red Devils after making his debut under Roberto Martinez, just two months before his move to the Premier League.
He played every minute of the nation’s four matches at Euro 2024 in Germany this summer before France knocked them out in the round of 16.
Emery is strengthening his squad ahead of the club’s return to the UEFA Champions League, Europe’s elite club competition.
The Spaniard guided Villa to a shock top-four finish last campaign, their highest finish since 1995/96.
