France 1 – 0 Guinea

Jul 28, 2024

France made it two wins from two at the 2024 Olympics with a late victory over Guinea in the men’s soccer competition in Nice.

FT FRANCE 1-0 Guinea
One goal is enough! France won it.
French victory
90+6′ FRANCE 1-0 Guinea
Henry Kamara was booked for a late tackle on Bade.
90+5′ FRANCE 1-0 Guinea
So close to! Olise, who was excellent in the second half, splits the Guinean defense and finds Doue, who races onto the ball past the penalty spot. Doue takes a first-time shot but misses the mark and his effort dribbles wide.
90+4′ FRANCE 1-0 Guinea
Two very late changes for Guinea here, as Doua’s center runs through their area and into the goal. Toure and Bach replace Isiaga Camara and Henry Camara.
90+1′ FRANCE 1-0 Guinea
Bach has a look at goal from distance, but his low shot is partially deflected off Truffert and past Restes.
90′ FRANCE 1-0 Guinea
We’ll have another six minutes here, minimum. The game seems to have lost all shape and rhythm for now.
88′ FRANCE 1-0 Guinea
Kone was booked for a late challenge.
86′ FRANCE 1-0 Guinea
Doue replaces Lacazette in the France team.
Does Guinea have anything left? That late goal seems to have worked for them.
83′ FRANCE 1-0 Guinea
Guinea created another chance, with Henri Camara replacing Moriba.
80′ FRANCE 1-0 Guinea
The French tails have really gone north now, as Millot wins them another corner. At the moment, football is Ole, and Olise is in the lead.
77′ FRANCE 1-0 Guinea
It was always likely that the cross was what did it. Somewhere in there, Naby Keita was booked, and with the temperature rising, he was transferred to Oulare.
1-0 France
75′ GOAL! FRANCE 1-0 Guinea
It’s coming, and France is leading! Olise sends an excellent cross from the right sideline, which Sildilia meets unnoticed from 12 yards. Sildillia’s header flies into the bottom corner and Nice goes wild!
73′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
France should be ahead! Olise plays a beautiful pass to Kalimuend on the right, who then hits the near post and out with Silla down to finish it all off!
71′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
A loose ball just outside the French area breaks for Toure, who has a powerful curler to the top corner but sends it wide of the target.
68′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
Scramble! A corner of Olysse finds the head of Bade, who reaches it just before the fist of the Force. The ball is released and Silla falls on it gratefully, but he looks like he’s shaking when the crosses are thrown in.
67′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
Silla was really tested now, saving a direct drive from Olise from 15 yards.
66′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
There is instant panic in the Guinea defense as a deflected cross is almost deflected over the head of the Force, who rush out to gather. It’s certainly in his hands now, though, as we head into the final quarter of the game.
63′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
Bach takes, but it is shocking, tall, wide and handsome.
62′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
Now then. Kone takes a free kick to the right on the left edge of the penalty area; it’s a shot chance…
61′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
Guinea threaten to break again, only for it to fall apart when Naby Keita plays a sloppy pass that is intercepted.
58′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
Truffert sends a dangerous cross into the Guinea area, which is clear and later it turns out that Truffert was offside anyway.
Changes follow for France, as Achliuche and Mateta are replaced by Kalimeundo and Millo.
French submarines
54′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
It’s another chance for Guinea as Balde gets past a couple of challenges on the line and fires low across the penalty area. Restes leaves it and there are no players at the back post to knock on; will they ask for not taking advantage of these opportunities?
53′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
Guinea almost cut through France on a quick break, an attack that was canceled out by an excellent sliding interception from Kone.
51′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
Thierry Henry is on the touchline, urging his players to do more. Changes must be inevitable if this continues.
49′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
Here’s a yellow card for Lacazette, after he caught Balde late on.
45′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
Peep peep, we’re back on track.
HT FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
Half time
45+10′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
Oh what a chance! Balde fumbles a cross to the back post, where Moriba rises and Luke fires a header over Restes to clear off the line. The ball falls to Balde, who chests the ball and volleys high over the crossbar from 12 yards. Guinea should be ahead here.
45+9′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
Bade was booked for going through the back of Bach. There didn’t seem to be much to it.
45+6′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
It took a long time to sort it out; halftime could be back in August at this rate.
45+2′ FRANCE 0-0 Guinea
We think we have a goal, but it’s chalk! Oh me oh my. What looks like an innocuous free kick from the left side of the French half, Diallo puts it perfectly into the French area. Toure arrives, completely unmarked, and marries

45′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
We’re hearing nine more minutes of added time.
France chance
44′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA – Akliouche whips a dangerous ball into the Guinea area, but it runs through to Sylla who gathers comfortably.
43′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
Isn’t VAR just ace? For some reason the check on what is clearly an offside on Naby Keita takes four of your earth minutes to confirm.
40′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
Disallowed goal! Diallo cuts in from the right and into the French area, before hitting a feeble bobbler at goal. Naby Keita chucks a leg at it, which kills the ball and allows him to slide it past Restes, but he’s a yard offside.
39′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
Lacazette whips in a cross cum shot, which Sulimah heads behind from a corner. Fron that an Olise inswinger finds Mateta, who heads tamely straight at Sylla.
37′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
Diallo gets into some space on the left of the French area, and goes straight at Sildillia. As he cuts past his man into the area Diallo goes over, but replays show barely a nudge and the ensuing goal kick is the correct call.
34′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
Big chance! Olise slide rules a pass through to Mateta, who is through down the middle. Mateta opens his body up to shoot and Sylla rushes at him, smothering the shot and sending the ball out for a corner. That is a superb save.
31′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
Naby Keita is getting through some running here, and showing no signs of tiredness after his shift carrying the Guinea flag at the opening ceremony last night. He wins a corner for his team, who have had a good few minutes here.
Guinea warm-up
29′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
Oh what a chance! Diallo latches onto a diagonal pass to go through into the area on the left; Bah is waiting in the middle, but a late lunge from Lukeba cuts out the low cross and puts it out for a corner. That is superb defending.
26′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
France win two corners in a row, which restores some positive vibes to the stadium. Nothing comes of either though, and it’s proving hard to create chances for both teams so far.
24′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
This is poor from Lacazette. France win the ball high in the final third, but Lacazette overcooks a simple pass to Olise who was clean through. Guinea clear, but that sums up this first quarter.
22′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
After that brief flurry of chances for the home side, a lull ensues. Guinea are right in this contest, which is very evenly balanced thus far.
19′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
A half chance now for Mateta, as he connects with a near post header from a Truffert cross but sends the ball a yard wide of the target.
18′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
France seem out of sorts tonight, but just as I type that they almost take the lead. Akliouche gets the ball inside the area on the right, and squares it across goal; Mateta channels Lee Sharpe against Barcelona and tries to Cruyff flick the ball inside the far post. He doesn’t get enough on it though, and the ball drifts agonisingly wide.
15′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
Elsewhere in Group A, the USA have beaten New Zealand 4-1 in Marseille.
France team
12′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
Toure has taken a bit of a whack here, and hobbles off to the side to be treated. The game will continue with Guinea down to ten men for the moment.
9′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
Moriba nutmegs Sildillia in the centre circle, and is clattered for his troubles. From the free kick Guinea work a shooting chance from distance for Diawara, whose low dipper to the near post is turned behind by Restes for a corner.
7′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
This is a chance for Guinea, as Diallo gets the ball 25 yards from goal and with no one near him. Diallo pushes forward and shoots, but it’s wild and over the bar. He’s furious with himself and should be, because that was an open sighting.
5′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
Ouch, this will sting. France go direct with a long ball to Mateta. Sylla rushes out to clear, but in doing so catches Madiou Keita full in the face with a flying boot. That was a miscommunication, and Guinea are lucky that the loose ball didn’t drop for Mateta. After treatment, Madiou Keita is ok to continue.
4′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
Naby Keita finds Bah with a nice reverse ball, but Bah’s touch is poor and Bade gets across to shepherd the ball out for a goal kick.
2′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
Lacazette has an ambitious whack at goal from the free kick, but launches it high over the bar.
1′ FRANCE 0-0 GUINEA
Peep! We’re underway in Nice and after just twenty seconds Olise wins France a free kick 30 yards from goal.
