MANCHESTER UNITED 1 – 1 BURNLEY

Apr 27, 2024

1′ STARTING KICK
Burnley, in their yellow changing strip, are kicking from right to left as we watch. The forward ball is directed towards Fofana, who holds off Kazemir and shoots straight at Onana from 16 yards. It was a decent chance for a sensational start.

3′ CHANCE FOR GARNACHO!
Both teams could have scored in the first 150 seconds. Fernandes strayed to shoot and crossed to the far post, where Garnacho crossed the goal with a half volley. He may have seen it late, but it was still a good opportunity.

20′ FERNANDES HITS THE POST!
The center on the left is controlled by Hojlund, who goes down under the challenge. The ball breaks to Fernandes, who hits a left-footed corner kick that deflects off the near post.

28′ CHANCE FOR BURNLEY!
Assignon rushes in from the right and moves the ball upfield to Odobert. He crosses it over Foster, who hits a first-time shot over the bar from 15 yards. This is probably Burnley’s best chance.

35′ GREAT SAVE FROM ONAN!
Bruun Larsen heads a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. Cullen volleys it back, Foster heads it from eight yards, and Onana changes direction and pulls off an outstanding save.

42′ YELLOW CARD
Odobert was penalized for standing on Garnac’s leg.

43′ ANOTHER YELLOW CARD
This time, Antoni received a yellow card for a late match in Vitinja.

END OF THE FIRST HALF Casemiro pushes Bruun Larsen out of the box which gives Burnley a free kick in a good half time position. Bruun Larsen curls right at Onana to end an open goalless first half.
Bruno Fernandes hit the post for United, one of many openings they created in the first 25 minutes, but Burnley dominated after that, with Andre Onana making two vital saves from Lyle Foster.

46′ KICK-OFF Back at Old Trafford, no changes to either side.

51′ MURIĆ REFUSES ANTONIJA – TWICE
The first was a close-range effort after Garnacho rounded the back; the second was arguably the better save, rushing out of his own goal after Antoni pounced on a great ball from Fernandes.
Moments later United had a penalty appeal turned down when Casemiro went down in the area after being challenged by Odobert.

57′ BURNLEY SUBSTITUTION
Zeki Amdouni replaces David Datro Fofana.

60′ YELLOW CARDBOARD
Cullen was punished for removing Antonio.

66′ MAN UTD SUBSTITUTES
Amad and Scott McTominai replace Rasmus Hojlund and Kobbi Mainoo, a decision that elicits loud boos from the home crowd.

69′ MURIC
United are half clear to Amado, who unselfishly plays Garnacho on the edge of the area. He takes the first shot which is dramatically pushed by Murić who jumps.

79′ GOAL! MAN UTD 1-0 BURNLEY (ANTHONY)
Antonije finally broke the deadlock! There was a mistake by Sander Berge, whose pass over the defensive line was intercepted by Antoni. He broke through, resisted the recovery challenge from Antonio – he could have fallen – and forced a shot past Murić. It’s a really well taken goal.

81′ MAN UTD SUBSTITUTION
Sofjan Amrabat replaces Eriksen in the midfield.

85′ APPEAL ON THE BARNLE PENALTY
A bizarre headbutt from Kazemir leads to Onana inadvertently punching Andouni in the face. I think this will be a penalty.

86′ PENALTY FOR BURNLEY
Onana got away with a similar incident against Wolves on his Manchester United debut, but everyone agreed it was the wrong decision and this time a penalty was awarded.

87′ GOAL! MAN UTD 1-1 BURNLEY (AMDOUNI PEN)
Amdouni scores, calmly sends Onana the wrong way! It’s a massive goal for Burnley, and a deserved equalizer from the game.

90 + 2′ YELLOW CARDBOARD
Esteve received a yellow card for a cynical pass on Antonio, who was cutting dangerously down the right.

FULL TIME: MAN UTD 1-1 BURNLEY
Amad’s shot was blocked by Fernandes, of all people, and Antonio’s follow-up was saved by Murić. It’s the final action of a wild afternoon at Old Trafford.
A draw is not of much use to either side, but it is a fair result in relation to the game. God knows how it was only 1-1, because both teams had so many chances.
