Former Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin has decided to retire from basketball after a “truly unforgettable” career.

The power forward has not played since leaving the Boston Celtics last year.

The 35-year-old enjoyed a phenomenal 14-year stint in the NBA, also representing the Detroit Pistons and the Brooklyn Nets.

But in a statement on Tuesday, he says now is the right time to move on.

“The game of basketball has given me so much in my life,”

He spent seven-and-a-half years with the franchise, helping them reach the playoffs on six occasions, before moving on to Detroit in 2019.

After three campaigns with the Pistons, he had short stints with the Nets and the Celtics between 2021 and 2023.

“I am thankful for every single moment,” he continued. “Not just the good ones; the wins, the awards, the dunks and the memorable times spent with family, friends, fans, team-mates and coaches.”

“All of these experiences made my 14 years in the league truly unforgettable, and I can’t help but to just feel thankful.”

Griffin certainly made the most of his time in the NBA, as he was named an All-Star on six occasions between 2011 and 2019.

He was also the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2011, as well as the NBA Slam Dunk Champion in the same year.

His final season in the league saw him make 41 appearances for the Celtics, during which he averaged 4.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
