English player Ollie Watkins says Spain’s “generational talent” Lamine Yamal has “the world ahead of him”.
England will play the ‘best team’ at Euro 2024 in the final on Sunday against Spain, who have the ‘generational talent’ of Lamina Jamal in their ranks. But Three Lions hero Ollie Watkins hopes Gareth Southgate’s side can “get the job done” and end their wait for European glory. “I feel like we’re very strong.” We have goals from all sides,” he said.
Jamal, 16, broke the record to become the youngest player to score at the Euros in more than 18 months when he struck to equalize against France in the semi-finals.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash, Watkins was full of praise for the teenager – who turns 17 on Saturday – but warned him about the importance of being “grounded and focused”.
“I definitely wasn’t preparing for the finals,” Watkins said when asked what he was doing at 16.
“He [Jamal] is a generational talent, he has the world ahead of him. He’s miles ahead of what I was at 17.”
