England are just one win away from qualifying for the European Championship in Germany. After beating the Netherlands 2-1 on Wednesday night, Gareth Southgate’s men travel to Berlin to face Spain in Sunday’s final. Chelsea striker Cole Palmer says the side are “buzzing” about the prospect of winning Euro 2024. England have not won a major trophy since the 1966 World Cup.
Palmer, who scored a penalty in the quarter-final win over Switzerland to set up Ollie Watkins’ winner against the Dutch, said the players had enjoyed the moment to beat Holland – but were back in game mode.
Palmer believes that England reach their peak especially at the end of the tournament.
“In the first few games we didn’t play to the best of our ability and everyone knew it,” said the Chelsea forward.
“But now I think the tournament has gone on, especially yesterday, I think we had the best game of the tournament, and that’s where you want to go in the later stages.”
