One of the world’s greatest players will be back in action at the latest edition of the European Championship as Cristiano Ronaldo will be among the Portugal squad looking to win the competition for a second time. The Al-Nassr striker’s impact is expected to be key despite his advanced age as he looks to add to the enviable record he already has at the tournament.

At 39, Cristiano Ronaldo remains an integral part of Portugal’s national team and has been included in the 2024 European Championship squad.
With a men’s record of 126 goals in 208 appearances for his national team to date, Ronaldo shows no signs of slowing down even as he ages.
The Al-Nasr striker will be looking to lead Portugal to glory in Germany as well as add to his own goalscoring and success records.

Cristiano Ronaldo has played in five European championships, and Euro 2024 will be his sixth appearance for Portugal.
Ronaldo was first selected for Portugal’s national team at Euro 2004, which was played in his homeland. He then appeared in subsequent teams in 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020 (which was held in 2021).

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first European Championship goal and first international goal for Portugal in a 2–1 group stage defeat by Greece at Euro 2004.
He scored his second goal in the same tournament in the semi-final victory over the Netherlands.
At Euro 2008, he scored his only goal of the tournament in a 3–1 group stage win over the Czech Republic.

Four years later, he scored a brace in a 2-1 group stage win over the Netherlands, as well as the winner against the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals.
At Euro 2016, Ronaldo scored twice in a 3–3 group stage draw against Hungary before opening in a 2–0 semi-final win over Wales.

Hungary were his victims again at Euro 2020 as he scored twice in a 3-0 win. He added another to his tally in a 4-2 defeat of Germany and another in a 2-2 draw against France. These goals took him to 109 international goals, equaling Ali Daei who held the record at the time.
In total, Ronaldo has 14 goals in the European Championship. The most of any player in the history of the competition.
In terms of most goals in a single tournament, Ronaldo’s tally of five goals at Euro 2020 is well behind Michel Platini’s record of nine for France in 1984.
