May 28, 2024

Aston Villa have announced that Unai Emery has signed a new five-year deal, tying him to the club until 2029. The head coach guided Villa to fourth place in the Premier League table in the 2023-24 season, which means the club have qualified for the UEFA Champions League. Villa also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League before exiting to Greek side Olympiacos.

Unai Emery has signed a new five-year contract at Aston Villa which means the Spaniard is tied to the Villa Park club until 2029.
His new deal comes after a successful campaign which saw the Premier League club finish fourth in the table and qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history – albeit they did win what was then called the European Cup in 1982.
“I am very happy to take this step and the responsibility of leading this club,” Emery told Villa’s official website.

“Since I came to Villa with Wes [Edens] and Nassef [Sawiris] we found always the best environment and structure to develop a project with the highest ambition.
“All the football structure with Monchi and Damian [Vidagany] and the owners, we share the same vision and same goals.
“There’s a great chemistry in Aston Villa. And the element of the fans’ support also makes the difference to feel like home. We are really excited to continue this journey with no limits to our dreams.”
Chairman Nassef Sawiris said: “We are building something special here at Aston Villa with Unai at its core.
“We are delighted that he has signed a new deal with the club until 2029.
“As we move into our historic, 150th anniversary year, there is a lot to look forward to with Unai at the helm.”

The former Sevilla, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain boss took Villa from 17th to seventh in the Premier League table in his first season in charge.

Their league position in the 2022-23 season ensured qualification into the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Villa reached the semi-finals in their first European campaign in 13 years, but it ended at the semi-final stage after exiting to Olympiacos over two legs.
